‘Manitou’ is a moving new single from Canadian artist ZOON. It’s an atmospheric, cinematic track that places their airy, distinctive voice above deep, dark string and synth arrangements. Over the course of the track, textures lift and intensify before a gentle acoustic guitar leads us towards its melancholy climax. ZOON describes the track as being about “the group of friends I had growing up in Selkirk Manitoba. We’d run across the red bridge and have fires and drink. Our little piece of heaven… I did notice a very sad element to the whole thing afterward. Everything was just so normal at the time, I didn’t have anything to really base it on, but I know now a lot of us were struggling with mental health issues and not properly taken care of, but we took care of each other and some of us got lost along the way, some passed on.” ‘Manitou’ is taken from Zoon’s upcoming album, Bekka Ma'iingan, which is due for release on April 28th, 2023. -Dan Peeke
